This custom piece will be a single sanderling shorebird on a small piece of driftwood. The piece is designed for a small side-table.
We start with a rough cut shape of the bird. I am making 3 variations so we can choose the best pose for the setting.
Here we see the 3 birds, rough cut and ready to begin shaping.
After the birds are shaped we add the wings. The birds are shaped, sanded and the wings are cut but not arttached yet.
Here is a selection of the driftwood bases we will be using. We will choose 3 of them from this group.
The birds are painted and almost complete - I have selected 3 pieces of driftwood for the bases. Each bird will have a unique pose - some facing up and some down.
